When I got married, my mother and I had a variety of disagreements about the registry. She thought we needed more things than I thought my household needed and a large multiple more things than my husband believed our household needed. I think this is generally the modern way.
A particularly good one was about china. It ended when my sister called to tell me I could register for it myself or Mom and one of her sisters would go pick some and register for it on my behalf on Saturday.
My mom got away with being really pushy while I was engaged. Recurrent cancer can make a kid a bit more pliable.
Anyway, she didn't live to see the day, but it has come. I actually found myself shopping for an ice bucket. Had someone gifted me one for my wedding, I am not sure that I would have moved it three times or kept it through any of our purges, but...
I said "What kind of parties do you think I have?" And she said "Just you wait" and she was right. Tomorrow I'm having a party for which I needed to buy a (stupid) ice bucket.
