We snuck off to LA for 48 hours. A mid-week vacation.
Tuesday night, we got in the car at like seven pm. The baby dutifully slept all the way there, with just one break for a cuddle and late night meal.
I'm pretty sure she thought she was having the craziest dream in that gas station parking lot. In the front seat, looking out the window to sodium lights on palm trees, still in her monster jammies... her face said "this is nuts."
We arrived at two, were all in bed by three, and the next morning I slept until nine while baby, husband, MIL and grandmother-in-law hung out. We went for a walk, had lunch, swam in the pool, took some naps. It was a nice day.
Then my husband and I got dressed up and attended the event we'd driven in for. We had a really nice time, four hours all to ourselves.
The drive back yesterday was not so bad. We had lunch in a restaurant and stopped to play at two rest areas, and only had to cope with one half hour screaming fest from the back seat. Not bad at all.
I have a feeling this baby is going to lose it the next time we put her in a car seat though.
In other news, we have a tooth. It's absolutely ridiculous how cute I think that tooth is. It's really cute though, even if you can only see it when the baby is screaming. (She covers it with her tongue when she laughs or when you pull down her lip to get a look.)
